Sunscreen questions

What's the difference between Ultra Clear, Extreme Zinc Lotion and Sports Mesh?

All three are SPF 50+ and 4 hours water resistant. Ultra Clear has zinc oxide 5% plus two other filters and rubs in clear. Extreme Zinc Lotion has 20% zinc oxide plus three other filters. Sports Mesh has no zinc and a light, non-greasy feel.

Which is best for surf and sport?

Any of our 4 hours water resistant lotions, with a zinc stick for your nose, cheeks and ears. Reapply after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

What does SPF 50+ mean?

It's the highest SPF category on Australian sunscreens: very high protection. No sunscreen blocks all UV, so apply plenty and reapply.

Can children use them?

Our creams, lotions and sticks are for children over 6 months. Check each product's label information.

How to pick the right Sun Zapper for your day.

Cream or lotion?

Our Pure Zinc creams are thick and zinc-rich, with zinc oxide as the only active ingredient. Our lotions are lighter and 4 hours water resistant, for surf, sport and long days outside.

How much to use

Cancer Council suggests around 35mL, about 7 teaspoons, for an adult's whole body. Most people use far less, and get less protection than the label says.

Sunscreen is one part of sun protection

Cancer Council's SunSmart message still says it best: slip on clothing, slop on SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, slap on a broad-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses. Avoid prolonged high-risk sun exposure, and protect your skin whenever the UV index is 3 or above. Frequent use and re-application, as directed on the label, is what makes sunscreen work.
